[paper.] // the story of.

__we believe that life is about taking chances. going your own way is scary as hell sometimes and it would be more than okay to skip a few roads. but when you get out of your comfort zone and start moving forward, you experience new highs in your life. the highs that make your life exciting and interesting as hell.

__like the rush of adrenaline when you do something completely new and scary for the first time! moving to berlin [from amsterdam.] in dark and cold january [-15°], without having any clue of where to start, was one of those moments for us. or when we were shooting our videos at beautiful places. we climbed fences, visited botanical gardens and experienced nice parts of berlin.

__so, who the hell are we?

__hi.! we are katharina, sebastian, and bernd. two german siblings and a dutchmen who founded [paper.] together.

__passion, honesty and creativity. these are the key factors behind all of our work and what we manifest into [paper.] we love being our own bosses, doing our own thing, and having the feeling of complete creative freedom. furthermore, we love backpacks and the environment, so we started the label [paper.]

__well, because we want to create a new way of combining design with sustainability, making it appealing for an urban lifestyle. but, also to change the way fashion is being done. right now the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, and in this day and age we have to get [collectively] rid of sweatshops and the concept of fast fashion. we all have to change our lifestyles to be more sustainable so that we can all live on a greener planet.

__this is far from easy and it will require to rethink how we as human beings interact with the planet that we are living on. in the meantime, we want to do our part by offering a green alternative to leather or any other non-sustainable product. some say that our mission sounds idealistic and crazy, but we know that the ‘crazy’ people who believe in themselves are the ones that can make a change in life.

__it is time to change and that’s why we do the whole the thing differently! our idea is simple: offer sustainable backpacks with a minimalist design at an affordable price. also, it is in our core values to treat people, animals, and our planet with great care and respect.

__but realizing this dream is far from simple. it is [fucking.] hard.

__the hardest struggle was to find ethical suppliers in europe that offer what we want, namely good quality, sustainable materials at an affordable price. we got ignored a lot and spend a full year on trying to get all the right materials. this is mainly because the industry standards are so low and not many sustainable materials are on the market [yet].

__nevertheless, we proceeded and are now proud to present to you our first sustainable rucksack: the [square.]

__now it is time for the next chapter: running our crowdfunding campaign on kickstarter. this is where it all comes down to. it is time to see now if we are able to create a community of inspiring people who also want to make the world a little bit better […looking.]

__getting out of your comfort zone is incredibly easy when you do it for the right reason. whatever this reason might be for you, it should embody your full passion and a little bit of dreaming. try to have an open mind and open eyes while walking through life, and we guarantee that you'll find something that fires up your passion. so, get out there and follow the path that your feet start to create!

__that is, and will continue to be, the story of [paper.]

    Hi Airees,
thank you so much for your great feedback! Berlin is definitely worth a trip! :)
Your approach combining art & sustainability sounds really interesting!
Up until now, we only sell our bags through our webshop and ship worldwide, also to Helsinki.

    Have a great day!

Thanks for sharing your inspiring story. I can feel the burning passion in what you do. It inspires me more to continue what I do – ART+Sustainability. I hope to get to visit Berlin in the coming months to see your beautiful city and would love to get one of your bags for myself. Do you happen to have a store/stockist in Helsinki?

You’re doing a great job! Keep it up. :)
